Shaw throttle linkage

I just brought home a 1951 Shaw R8. complete and running but it appears the previous owner replaced carburetor and throttle plate lever works backwards so he reversed cable but it defeats the governor. Can anyone send a picture of correct setup for carb/throttle cable/governor? B&S Engine Model# is 23F8C Type 203540 Ser #40705

Here's a couple photos for you of my 23FBC which is on my Shaw R8. Note it is FBC, not F8C.
You will see the throttle connects at the top to the rod that extends down to the flat lever below the carb. From the flat lever the spring connects to the governor lever below. From that lever another shorter rod goes up and connects to the carb throttle.
Shaw seemed to have things working opposite than what we're used to. On my Shaw (which I think is the norm for them) the throttle control speeds up the motor when I move the wand downward. My choke also works opposite. When I pull it all the way out the choke is off.

Hi Tom,
Pictures and explanation were very helpful. I agree it seems backwards that is why I was questioning. So when I pull the throttle handle towards me from the seat, it raises the rod and increases the speed. If I push the handle forward all the way it is idle. Is that what you are saying? If that seems correct then I think I am just missing the small piece of linkage between the governor arm and the pivot arm. If you have a minute could you measure that link so I can make one to spec? Thanks again. I hope mine can look as good as yours one day.

First off - looks like you have a nice project there. Mine was in a little worse shape back in 2014 when I found it. Hadn't run for at least 6 years.
As for your throttle lever I don't know if its the same as mine. See photo. I'm pointing to the throttle lever. The whitish knob is for the choke and then I have a kill button.
Also including a photo taken from the back that shows the linkage connecting the governor lever to the carb throttle. You'll see there are a few factory bends in this rod. The measurement is 7 from hole of governor to hole of carb throttle. Rod is about 7.4 total length.

Thanks again, this is a great help. I am real pleased with it. Starts and runs great just isn't governed so you have to goose the throttle if you load it.

Tom,
Yes my throttle works the same direction. I don't have a choke cable or the bracket for it on the steering support. I just have to do it at the carb. The pictures will be a great help. Thanks, Ron

If the carb is a China aftermarket one what I've done is grind off the throttle shaft pull the throttle arm off turn it 180 degrees and rivet the shaft backI use a center punch also and it has worked good on the Model 23's I have Also be sure to get the rod from the gov arm to the carb right if installed upside down it will bind on the carb float bowl

Thanks, I may try to change the shaft like you said or I think I found a little better carb (still junk) but it has a reversible throttle shaft. I appreciate all the help. The last owner has the governor isolated by connecting the carb directly to the pivot arm so the throttle just controls the carb directly. The first thing I have to do is make the linkage.
