Went and looked at some tractors a lady is wanting to sell. In the trio is a 1948 Gibson model F or so it says on the placard they had on it. The only reason I went to look at em was to see what she had and maybe give a ballpark value on what she had. The problem she’s gonna have is they bought em when the market was appreciated and that’s what she thinks she’s gonna get. All the research I did on a Gibson model F indicated to me there never was such a thing. From all the photos I looked at it bore the closest resemblance to a model D with the 1 cyl. Wisconsin and joystick steering. Question is, did Gibson ever make a model F and if they did how rare would it be? Her last statement was, I’ll get what I want or they’ll sit. I think they might sit. Thanks for any input. DP

No opinion on the value, but I can sympathize with her. My fear with some of my stuff is that somebody will try to beat my wife out of it for cents on the dollar. On the other hand I don't want her to sit on it thinking she'll get more than it's all worth either. It's a fine line.

So does it have a grill and hood? No Gibson didn't make a F they did make a E but it was a 2 cylinder tractor that was a wide front or a tricycle model. The SD was the same as the D but had a hood with tiller steering.

This one didn’t have a hood, but it did have tiller steering. Would’ve got the serial # but I didn’t know where to look. Could’ve searched but it was too dark too hot and too close quarters. Thanks for the input

I have a Gibson Model D with no sheet metal on it at all with a tiller stick for steering. I also have a copy of the history of the Gibson company and they did make a few different models As the D, Super D , E ,H, I. I don't see any F models but I suppose there could be. The H model was a big tractor for it's day as in a 2 bottom plow tractor. Hope this helps. Not sure of the value of my tractor but I know it is probably not worth what I would want for it.

Tiller steer Gibsons are the "A" (16 inch rear wheels) the "D" and "SD" (24 inch rears). All other Gibsons had steering wheels.

There was no "F" model made.

I bought two running "D"s last fall-one with an added-on steering wheel and live hydraulics for 400.oo for the pair.

Thanks warbaby. I ain’t gonna tell you what she gave for the one she has but she’s gonna be very fortunate to break even. It is a nice piece. I couldn’t see anything wrong with it. Comes with a front blade that should work. Didn’t hear it run but it ain’t stuck. We’ll see what happens.
