Rear rim Long 360

One of my rear rims is badly rusted but has not failed yet. Still on the tractor with 12.4 x 28 tire mounted. Measuring the bead-to-bead width in not easy in this circumstance but it appears to be 11". The Long parts catalog Page 425 does not list a wheel 11" wide. It has W10 x 28 #775789, 12 x 28 #754552 and W12 x 28 #754553-- not sure of the difference indicated by the W.

The fact that my rims appear to be 11" and that Long parts shows no such width really concerns me. Can anyone clear this up for me?

M.E. Miller Tire has http://www.millertire.com/products/wheels/rear-tractor/flat-base/28x11-flat-base-rim-unpainted/
and http://www.millertire.com/products/wheels/rear-tractor/loop/28x11-6-loop-rim/

I would have to cut the 6 mounting lugs from my old rim and weld them to the new as they are not at all like the loops on the Miller Rim.

My rear tires have liquid ballast and I am no longer physically able to handle such a heavy load. I will have to hire changing of the rim and tire.

Useful explanations welcomed.

Just go on ebay and find a six loop rim, there are many to choose from, you can use the loop style they should work fine just need to get longer bolts.Should be some on Craigslist
depending on where you live.

My primary concern was about the rim width. Mine appear to be 11" but the parts catalog suggests that Long did not use 11" rims. I bought my tractor new in January 1978 and know that no one has switched rims while I have owned it.

I think welding your loops on might be your only option. Mid Michigan Wheel told me that's what I'd have to do.

I bet a Ford wheel would be the same , anything from the year 1965 on up in a 3000 Ford series. Don?t know that for a fact but something to check in to....

My rim is definitely 11" wide. The rim is really bad but still on the tractor with the tire and ballast. Age, bad knees and back prevent me from tackling the job myself. The rim has "Z" brackets, not loops, and I find no replacements in the 11 x 28 size. It is preferred to get brackets and weld to new rim before dismounting the tire and cutting up my old rim to get the brackets.
Photo of the brackets at the link,
Where to get 6 brackets, used or new?

I have a set of the Ford 6 loop style rims on my Long 460 someone replaced the original type rim.As long as its a 28" it should be fine with the 30 inch rims they are different sometimes.

Did the bolts fit the Long center disc and the Ford rim loops without reaming or drilling? If so, I might use a Ford rim temporarily while working to get a rim that matches the Long original.

I'm in Southwest Va. Have a Long 350 I bought for parts a few years back. Rims should be rust free, as I remember, no fluid. If you are interested I could get pictures later in the week.

Please do not expend additional effort or time on this rim project.
As most would do, I continued my efforts here to find what I need. Found a rim and mounted tire at Lake Wylie SC, about 100 miles from my location. But the tire would not be good except for emergency use, the Long is reputed to have spider gears that are not especially durable and matched tire sizes help minimize spider gear wear. Plus his price was rather high.
Called the wrecking yard about 6 miles from my home where I had seen 2 Longs about 20 years ago. Still had one with one rim. No sign of calcium ever and needs only a little work to be usable. It is now in my shop.
Thanks to all who responded. Responses for me are thought provoking and often lead to additional creativity on my part.

The center disc is really known as the "wheel" and the part where the tire mounts is the "rim". I now know that the 28 x 11 rim with 6 loops from DB Electrical will fit the wheel on the Long 350/360. The rim loops are on a slightly smaller diameter circle than are the bolt holes in the Long Wheel. But 5/8" bolts will fit though the openings and should work just fine. The loops may result in a different tire width spacing on the tractor than with the original rims with the "Z-bar" mounts.
Now we know.

The rim is from India, nicely painted and is number 3008-1015. Supposedly fits many different tractors.
