I took 2 steers and a cow a week ago. The steers were over weight, up around 1600. I got $1.72 for one, $3053, The other one brought $1.68, $2696. The cow brought $1.09, $1400 even. Report from the sale barn is saying a top of $1.92 on fats.

Gotcha. That seems to be inline with most areas I guess. Gotta be happy with those prices for the most part. My guess is it continues all fall.

There's no sign of any rebuilding. They say there's a little glut of finished cattle right now, but they'll be through the system by the fourth quarter, then they could get even higher.

While I dont finish any cattle, I have never seen prices like we are getting right now for very average cull cows. I shipped out a few older Jersey cows weighing average 1,000lb and got a buck a pound. I remember getting .06 cents a pound during BSE, but thats another story. I also sold intact Angus bull calves weighing 600lb a got $2.85/pound, prices I never seen before! Not loosing my mind and doubling down on my cattle numbers or anything, just pleasantly surprised.

The prices are high for feeders. Looks like the fall will be a good time to sell. I was told that as long as the feedlots can get 1.80 on fats they can still make money on high feeder prices.
