Oliver 18-27/18-28 Valves????

Well, working on resurrecting a piece from the junk pile. Sat for 50+ years. Amazingly 5 out of the 8 valves refaced in my old Sioux machine. Other three....well....there is no hope for them.

Anybody have any thoughts on where to procure a few more valves for a 18-27/18-28? Oliver 80 KD is the same too. Used is okay as I don't mind refacing them in my old machine. Need two intakes 2 head, and one exhaust 1 3/4 Head. Some earlier ones used 2 for IN & EX.

Thanks Much

I don't have a name but a few years ago we got valves for an 80 from it seems it was out west. I think the place had NOS and could make valves. At the time I think $300 something for 8 valves.

If I can remember I will try to call a guy who can tell me who that was. I have stuff going right now.

I would be careful of old exhaust valves. They are two piece and I have seen them come apart just dropping them on the floor.

One was I think big block chevy's and maybe some mopars. Anything setting could do it. I used to run an engine machine shop was where I saw it.

Back during and after WWII valves were rebuilt and refaced - as new replacements were unobtainable. Somewhere, I have the data sheets for repairing/servicing a lot of old machinery. Hard facing was the order of the day, for KD models with hardened exhaust seats, to build up the valve heads. Little wonder some valve heads came adrift - usually scrapping the tractor, back in the 50s.

My 90 suffered a seized engine due to a dropped exhaust valve when left at fairly fast idle (to prevent the plugs oiling up ). The smashed valve seat was replaced, the inlet seat required re-cutting (was severely hammered out of shape) and the head was cracked from the hammering from the bouncing valve head (it was eventually repaired by stitching and ceramic sealing). The piston was re-used after cleaning up by machining the crown and relieving the top ring groove (I also relieved the inside corners of the top ring, too, as I didn t have a lathe.

The KD valves will be longer than the gasoline heads?
