cylinder head torque spec

hello again, with the help of the floyd museum they figured out that the oliver 1650 diesel i have is actually a 1600 and by way of the block casting numbers the engine is off of a late model 1655. i have the repair manual which covers both the 1650 and the 1655, but in the torque specs for the head it calls for torquing 1-6 at 150 and the remainder at 133. can anyone verify this?

according to the floyd museum, the engine is a 1655 with the engine casting numbers i gave him. he even traced it down to the serial
number of the tractor itself, which is 231833-490. by the way i did get that oil adhesive from grainger, ain't cheap.

I didn't get a chance to check last night. I need to get the service bulletins and look through those as well. I'll try again this weekend.

hi, i'm a little concerned about putting 150 lbs of torque on a 9/16 bolt regardless of what the book says. then there is the wet
and dry issue affecting torque. it is assumed that the spec is wet. is that so?

Sorry, I'm very confused now reading what was previously posted.

My information says the engine block casting number of 158544A was used in indirect injected 1650 diesels, not the 1655. Now, and according to the Floyd County Museum, you're saying the engine serial number with that same 158544A casting number is on a build card to a direct injected 1655?

I remember your previous question about the head gasket and I'm worried you may not have the right one again.

I would like you to answer this question- does your engine have the pencil injectors that mount vertically through the top of the head or do you have the injectors that mount through the side?

Thanks.

through the side. you see, the decal on the oliver says 1650 so when i found out the chasis is a 1600 i assumed the engine was still
a 1650. when i went to use the manual the serial number of the tractor didn't match anything in the manual so i called the museum and
he trace the block casting to a 1655. now the serial number of the 1655 tractor the engine came out of is 231833-490. in the book
that means the head bolts 1-6 are torqued at 150 and the others at 133. i don't know but think it's not a good idea to torque these
9/16 bolts to 150lbs. do you?

Ok, here's the deal. You do not have a 1655 head. The 1655 diesel was direct injected with pencil injectors through the top of the head. You might have a 1655 block, but the head is an indirect injected Lanova head. Your tractor just got more interesting and I do believe there's a service bulletin that applies to that head which I don't have near me at the moment.

o.k. good to know. i was and am going to torque it to 133 lbs as a 1650 unless there is something about it that you can find in a
bulletin.
thanks,
andy

yes, i did keep the original gasket and the new one matches up with all the holes. my 1650 is a 1965. but the manual calls for 133 lbs. the 1655 later models call for 150 lbs of torque, that is according to the manual. using the block casting number and calling the floyd museum i may actually an oliver 1600 chasis with a 1655 engine block with a 1650 head. so i think i will torque the head down using 133 lbs of torque. a true nightmare.
