540 wit the Continental F162. The F400 you see on the casting was Continental's prefix to many of their cast part numbers on these engines.

Superb little tractors. My brother brought one home several months ago not running, stuck valves, lots of other minor issues. At first I was furious at him for dragging another project home. Then we spent a weekend working on it and it's possibly the best running tractor on the farm. Starts instantly, even in the dead of winter. Finger-tip power steering, live PTO & hydraulics. I put a joystick valve on the loader and it's great for moving bales & wagons. Just driving it around and using it for utility work, you wouldn't know it's not a 30 year newer tractor. One of the few good Continental engines in my opinion - used it a lot o stationary/industrial applications.

There are a few things to know about them - how to adjust the hyperactive governors, keep the three point linkage lubed. But overall they're great tractors, and heavily built for the HP.

The CWC that you see on the side of the block is the block was cast by the Campbell Wyatt and Cannon Foundry in Muskegon Michigan for Continental, who also had a motor plant in Muskegon. Continental also built army tank engines there and were shipped to the tank plant in Warren Mi. In the 60's I hauled some loads of the motors over there, 4 at a time.

1958 COCKSHUTT 540...F-162 Continental Engine.Tough Tractor. HAPPY TO LEARN that YOU LIKE IT now!!! You may want to adjust the length of the carb.to governor rod linkage and be sure that you have the correct gov. spring on the vertical linkage alongside the radiator.

We have parts for this and ALL COCKSHUTT BRANTFORD, ONTARIO CANADA built tractors.
