hello again,
did get a tube of the arp oil for the head bolts and a repair manual from the floyd museum, but i have questions. i'm working on an oliver 1650 diesel ser# 143314-607. i have had the head done and am trying to get ready to reinstall it. it is obvious where the oil supply bolt goes however where do the two stud head bolts go? the book shows the tightening sequence but nothing else. i forgot. the book also mentions about a graduated tightening but doesn't give you any numbers. the torque depends on the serial number, but how many steps to final torque? it also mentions that at the last torque to back off a little then apply the final torque. so if you've done it before, let me know what to do.
thanks,
andy

you better get some info on that engine and the torque spec's. wakashaw ? i all ways torque in three steps to full torque then a recheck so thats a 4 step deal. go at 1/3 torque till full torque. most important is to bring it up to operating temp then do another retorque and valve set.

Remind us again which engine- direct or indirect injection? I think there was a service bulletin at some point.

hi, that is true. i first got from floyd museum a repair manual for a 1600 because of the serial number, but after i had asked them to research the tractor, the build card showed that it was in fact a 1600 chasis but a 1650 engine. exactly which one, i don't know except that it must be for a 1650. so when you look at the 1650 manual it doesn't list your serial number because the tractor has a 1600 serial number. crazy.

I remember now. You have an early 1650 engine based on your casting number. Should be a Lanova engine.

It's not at all crazy or necessarily uncommon that it has a later engine.

Also, I believe the head bolt tightening service bulletin does apply to your engine, but don't hold me to that. Hopefully someone will chime in as I don't have the bulletins near me right now.
