1850 rear end

Pulled the 1850 in to replace a weak hydraulic pump this
morning and found that the idler shaft had worn the rear end
housing beyond repair. Anyone ever see this? Im looking for a
rear end, or a blown tractor to drop my engine in.

Something similar yes. The cotter pin came out of the gear in mine and let the shaft slide back. It dropped down at an angle and wore the hole. Mine was still good in about half of the hole. I welded a few big washers in it, built a few spots up and put new bearings in. It's far from perfect, but it's been going that way for fifteen years or more now. Yours looks too far gone for me to want to attempt a fix.

I asked because looking at the photo on my phone it looks like a trail of buildup slag. Regardless, how that whole thing didn't grenade is beyond me.

Im an hour south of Cincinnati. What you asking for it? Considering cutting out a chunk of the casting and and tapping for a pillow bock bearing.

How bad is the front hole? The bearing for that is a needle bearing with an outside race. It looks like you have a lot of meat left around where the bearing would go. Can you build up that gouge with cast rod until it's close? Put the bearing in after that, put something like cardboard on one side then jam the void full of JB Weld, then put another piece on the other side until it hardens. What have you got to loose?

The housing is good but was full of water when I got it. All the bearings and gears would have to be swapped over from your old housing. I would sell it for scrap value. Steve.
