Part # quad ring for steering orbital hand motor char ly

We have an 1850 Oliver that has orbital hand motor on steering that is a charlynn as on 1855. Hydraulic oil is coming up out of steering column under steering wheel. I understand there is a quad ring below
that is bypassing fluid. does anyone have a part # or dimensions for this quad ring, and is this the problem. Also, can quad ring be replaced without pulling hand motor. Thanks for any info.

I happened to be skimming thru the 1850 parts catalog when I noticed your post.
On pg U1-20 and 21 power steering hydra motor. I do not see anything that is called a quad ring but from your description I assume that fluid is leaking out the top of the hydra motor. The parts catalogue refers to item #25 which is described as a Bearing and seal kit. The AGCO original number is 156 558-A

I cant speak to if they are still stocked by AGCO. The service book indicates that the unit needs to be removed from instrument panel to service.

We have four of these type of steering motors in our tractors and none of them leak. There is a really good chance that if you cant find the replacement seals that you will find a second hand Saginaw hydra motor at a wrecker. I believe that there were a few combines that used the same part so there should still be lots around.

I dont know from experience but I hear the names of Korves and Maibach tractor tossed out in this forum as the experts in these matters.

I can't help you with the one on an 1855 specifically, but I've changed that seal pack on an 1850 and 1550. On those, I wouldn't take the hydra motor out of the tractor. You can sit right on the seat and work on them. Just pull the dash.

The book shows 2 seals stacked on top of each other. The top one is Agco part number 30-3022927, the bottom one is 30-3022919. The breakdown looks quite similar to the one in the 1850.

The miserable thing won't let me edit. There's a whole seal kit for that, that includes both seals, the bearing and o ring. The number for that is 30-3022900. They call it a plug assembly.

Ok so yours does NOT have the original saginaw steering unit correct? Not all of the parts books have the char lynn unit in them. The whole seal kit is 30-3350592, and the 1755 and 1855 books don't have it in. You CAN get the quad ring, wiper seal, and bigger ring for the housing separate, but I normally get the kit so I have everything. One thing though, depending on your exact model of valve, you might not use everything in the kit, but if its only leaking through the shaft, you can do it without taking the bottom half apart.

Thanks for all the replies. The tractor is actually an 1850. The orbital motor has been changed before we got tractor about 25 years ago. We ordered the seal kit from dealer, took hand motor and repair kit to hydralic shop that does all our hydralic related work. Did not leak before, but leaks now after reassembling unit. Want to avoid taking unit off as requires more time than we have now that we are doing hay. Will just pull dash and work from there. Thank again for the info and help.
