hi all, had an external leak from the back left corner of the head and decided to fix it. well it's not that simple. the machinist had it magnafluxed and found many cracks in it. there were even crack between the the cylinders. none were from the injector hole to the valve seats. it never leaked into the oil either. he told me the cracks were fixable by stitching but said between the cylinders would be labor intensive. so, i checked around the salvage yard and found that they all talk to one another and it turns out that there is nothing available. the only thing i found was at asap. one head was rebuilt and another was not, but both were out of stock. any ideas? i started this two months ago and now i need to plow so if anyone knows something please let me know.
thanks,
andy

I would be surprised if there were NO cracks.
If they arent into the water jacket, and you have said they arent to the valve seats, youre probably OK as it is.
Pressure testing would reveal whether they leak.

First of all we need to know if you are looking for an early or late head Send ne an email and phone number. Get it pressure tested. J .

hi, the oliver is a 1965. by pressure tested you mean more than a magnaflux. the machinist is concerned about the cracks between the cylinders on the head. do you think that matters much?

Just post the serial number! They were not made in 1965!I would be sursprised if it was not cracked!. Yes get it pressure tested. Send me an e-mail and include a phone number!

hi, i don't know what to tell you but according to the floyd city historical society which sent me a copy of the build sheet it was not only not a 1650 that is a decal on the hood but also it was made in 1965. anyway the serial number is 144314-607 and my number is 860-742-5717. won't be around mon-wed but i do need to make a decision about the head this week.

I'm no expert but maybe you should try a different machine shop that's knowledgeable on Oliver's and can pressure test it of course unless your guy is well versed in them. Did you buy any chance call Korves? I believe they have used parts. Maybe check the yt classifieds. Brad Metcalf or Justin Meyer may have one.
