Hi:

Doing some prep work on our 1750 to get it ready for the seasons work. Looking at fixing some minor issues like:

1) Only one front facing light on the would be passenger side works. The both lamps work when power is applied to them, so problem is switch or wiring. I took dash apart to test switch. When turning switch I can find power to a pin and lights on the would be drivers side work. Is there any connectors besides what is in the engine area?

2) Last summer the tach reading would bounce. The recommendation was to put ATF in the cable housing and that helped, but it still has a bounce. I figured while I had the dash apart I would pull the cable out of the housing and soak it. I cannot pull the cable out. Is there something holding it to the drive?

3) One of the power steering lines was leaking. After removing the radiator I was able to get the lines off. Somewhere in the tractors past life someone used vice grips on the steel lines. How much pressure is there from the power steering? Can I splice in a new line section using compression fittings? Or, should I put a flare on the line with a reinforced rubber line?

Thanks for your thoughts.

if you have one front light working how can it be the switch?? you need to look at the wiring right at the headlites from one to the other.
you need to pull the cable from the bottom not the top. better use a compression fitting. or else you need to use hydraulic hose. its not
thoughts,... its for real.

Hi rustred:

Sorry, I was not clear enough.

I have had both lights working, but very seldom. Like a bad switch. There is no power to the wire connected to the light. Since the wires are in the fender frame and under the cab, I found it easier to test the switch.

Thanks for your real thoughts

All I can tell you on those steering lines, The ones on my 1850 have been brazed (by me) several times. One spot in
one, I've put a brass compression fitting coupling in it. It's been in there probably 20 years. Best way to put a
hydraulic hose anywhere on or in any of those lines is to get a hose made with steel compression fittings on the
ends. I just did that two weeks ago on my White 2-135.

Hi rustred:

Ok, so the compression fittings will handle the pressure from the power steering. Thanks for that.

I have added more ATF to the tack cable to see if I was too skimpy last time.

Tracing the wires is proving to be a challenge. Most of the year I do not need lights but I would like to fix them anyway.

Thanks

Hpw would someone determine which is the passenger side of a tractor. when I was much younger we
boys would ride on either side. A lways refered to any equipment as right or left facing the rear .

i was much younger

Using common North American nomenclature, the passenger side=right side as you're sitting on the tractor, driving a car, etc.

God help boat people.

Hi:

That, of course, is one of the problems with short descriptions in English. Right side as you face the back of the unit (tractor boat, ski jet, etc) or right side as you face the front of the unit. Even passenger side is dependant on which country you live in. Things can get wordy as you try to cover all the bases.

Right or left is always as youre sitting in the seat or standing behind the unit. The same thing for engines standing behind them facing flywheel.

How about a hockey rink? Does that depend on what jersey youre wearing? Does that change if you cross the continental divide? Does it change three times if you cross the international time line, continental divide, and Canadian border?
