Oliver 1655 hydraulics work intermittently

I bought an Oliver 1655 off an auction. at first the power steering and 3 point worked but not very strong. I hooked up my disc mower to the 3 point and hooked up the hydraulic up. The 3 point lifted the mower most of the way but I couldn t get enough pressure to tip it up with the cylinder to get it off the ground. I took what I think is the pressure relief valve off by my right calf and cleaned that. After that I got the mower to pick it up all the way so I moved the tractor and put the mower back down for the night. Now when I turn on the tractor nothing moves even a little bit, no 3 point no power steering but if I rev the tractor way up I can get it to kinda work occasionally where the power steering and the 3 point work but it doesn t have enough power to pull the mower up with the cylinder yet.
 
The filter is inside the cast cup between your legs, just ahead of the seat. I'd change that, then maybe clean the
relief valve again if it still acts up.
 
Woops, I was already typing before you said you changed the filter. Unfortunately those pumps do go bad now and
then. The one in my 1850 cracked one time while I was cutting hay. If the seal blows, it leaks into the rear end,
but being cracked where it was, it blew right back into the hydraulic reservoir.
 
You've been through the fluid level, filter and relief valve. Now check the pump pressure. When I got my 1550 the 3-pt would lift sometimes
and sometimes not and there was little noise from the relief valve when the plugged remotes were activated. Checked the pump pressure and it
would only develop about 500 psi.
 

I hope the system is just dirty somewhere or the pump is going out. If someone overheated it, you're in for a big job changing out all the orings/seals. I hope it wasn't in the auction for that reason. Good luck.
