hi, developed an exterior head gasket leak in my 1600 oliver with a diesel engine. bought the gasket set but now i wonder if i should
replace the head bolts with new ones. any thoughts? we are also doing a head job on another more modern diesel engine and they say
you shouldn't reuse the bolts and replace with new ones or studs. been looking around but haven't found any in the usual old parts
vendors.

Is the newer diesel torque to yield head bolts? If they are buy new if not just check the old bolts over and reuse.

I'm not the last word on it by any means, but I've never replaced head bolts on any. You'd have trouble finding the hollow one that feeds oil to the rockers.

(quoted from post at 13:53:12 03/01/23) hi, don't understand. i didn't post anything about head bolts last month. please clarify

Do look at the link I supplied. It IS your post from Feb 01. Or are you suggesting there is more than one of you? :D

hi, duh, you're absolutely right i did post the same thing last month. sorry. i just pulled the oliver in to work on it and know i
ordered the gasket set but forgot about the bolts. we're working on a kobelco with a fd6 nissan engine and haveing a terrible time
finding bolts for it. on this engine there isn't any question about whether or not to get new bolts but more like where to find them.
that's what triggered me to ask about bolts again.

Kobelco/Nissan. That sounds fun. What are the part numbers?

11056-Z5501 (Qty: 7)?
11056-A5500 (Qty: 19)?

hi, i'm not sure about the nissan part numbers but an ireland vendor has these numbers: nis 16071-61 and nis 16071-63. he has only
five bolts in stock and it would take five months to get more. do you have any of these bolts?

No, I don't have any, but I don't recognize those part numbers you have. Where are you getting those numbers? Do you have a parts manual/dealer who's gotten you the correct numbers? Kobelco #s may start with V and may incorporate the Nissan number. Then you may be able to track them down through an industrial nissan dealer, maybe a forklift etc. dealer.

hi, yes, we did contact a forklift dealer and he pretty much said it would takes months to get them and still you may not get the right
ones. so far we have contacted a stud manufacturer and its not cheap but doable.
