66 battery connections

Hello,
We have an Oliver 66 and i noticed that the negative on the battery actually goes to the ground. i thought all these 6v systems were positive ground??

Do you have a alternator on it or generator? A alternator will be negative ground in most cases. A generator, check the tag on it to see if it the proper ground.

Personally, I ve never yet seen a 6V alternator. Every one I have come across has been 12V or 24V on vehicles. I ve never seen a 12V positive earth alternator generator on a vehicle, but I know they exist(ed).

Perhaps the first question to the OP should be: is the battery 6 or 12 volts?

The alternator a 1973 Freightliner was a positive ground as well as the starter too. Been there done that, kept me on my toes for several years.

I should have worded it different. Maybe converted at some time. Alt-Gen.
