How can I correct this

The gas filler doesn't align with the hole in the hood. Had the tank off to pull the engine recently. The flat head screws are in place and when I drew up the screws at the rear of the hood it pulled over. What has to be moved or are they all like this?

Our 1650 gas and 1750 diesel hoods fit tight around the hood opening with the rubber grommet installed. Fit tight, but the hood can be removed and out back on. If I remember you have a 1550 which is probably similar to our 1650. If I remember right the tank is a tight fit toward the rear but not so much on the front. When you had things apart is there a possibility that maybe the tank brackets arent exactly in the right place ? Also if there was something tilting the tank a little on the bottom the amount the neck moved would be magnified on the top. Was the filler neck lined up before and was there ever the rubber grommet on the hood ? Im just thinking out loud without being there to actually see whats going on. Just a couple ideas. Sometimes sheet metal is a real pain to get lined up right.

It had the grommets but I don't remember if both or just one. The air stack and rediator neck line up goo. I left the grommets off because they were hard and cracked. The back end of the tank fits into the cowl and the flathead screws line up good. The bottom sits flat there and on the engine bracket. I don't have the front strap on yet, it needs repair.

I'm not familiar with your model. Does the radiator and intake tube both go through the hood ? If they do then the tank must be off a little bit. A small amount off can make filler neck off quite a bit.

Leave the screws in the cowl loose and try adjusting the front of the tank to line up the hole better. Sometimes I think it is easier to line up the hole with the tank loose and then tighten after the hood is on.
