1750 Steering Lines

Hi:

The steering line to the Cylinder Assembly are leaking and I need to take them off to fix. I can see the connection in front of the dash. Tight but doable if they are not frozen. It looks like the connection to the steering cylinder are under the rad facing the front. Do I have to take the grill and rad off to get at them?

Thanks

The whole line doesn't have to come off. There are fittings just below the dash where the rubber lines hook to the steel lines.
Those fittings to the steering motor are almost impossible to find, so if you have to have new hoses made, cut the steel tubing as
close to the rubber as you can and get new hoses with compression fittings made so you can graft them together.

To answer the question, no, the grill doesn't have to come off. The rad either, just might have to take he sheet metal off the
sides to reach in there.

Hi rrlund:

Thanks for your comments.

Yes I see the fitting you refer to. The leak seems to be at the bend where the line bends to go to the front. The space between the line seems tight and it looks like the lines were rubbing and rubbed a pin hole in the line. Can I use solder to seal the hole, Then I would just have to separate to prevent them rubbing.

Ya, if you just need to take the tube to the cylinder off, I for sure wouldn't monkey around taking it off the hydra motor. Just
take it apart where the steel goes to rubber below the dash. I've brazed several of them as well as cooler lines.

Hi J, rrlund:

Thanks for your thoughts.

Will a hand held propane torch generate enough heat? That is my source for heat.

I will see if I can get it apart first.
