I recently purchased a 1650 gas that came with 12.4 rear tires mounted on a 13 rim. The're very dry rotted, so I want to replace them. will 15.5 fit on a 13 rim, or should I just go with 13.6?

In addition this tractor came with a creeper trans, as opposed to the hydra shift. I'm thinking about removing that and put a hydra shift in it which would be much handier in a hay field. Thoughts?

Either you're confused or I am. The two speed Hydra Power is seperate from the transmission. I've never messed with a creeper gear, but isn't that internal in the transmission?

As far as the tires, I put a 15.5 on my 77 one time to get by for a while. It wasn't ideal, but it worked.

Those seem like aweful small tires for that tractor. Our 1650 has 18.4/34 on it. I always thought that 16.9 and 18.4 tires were the popular sizes for that tractor. 12.4 and 13.6 were popular on Farmall tractors like the H and M. I will also agree with rrlund. I believe the creeper transmission has nothing to do with the hydra power. Rather would be gearing in the actual transmission which is completely seperate from the hydra power.

I'm sure I'm the confused one, lol. Here's a pic of the creeper trans, in front of the standard trans and before the clutch. I think the 2 speed would go here instead? Not sure.

I've never seen a unit like that one. You've shown me something new. I would think a Hydra Power unit would go right in there in place of it. Don't scrap that thing. It can't be very common.

I'm kinda thinking with the 12.4 tires and creeper, that thing might have been in the vegetables somewhere.

I've never seen one like that before, it would be a good idea to contact Floyd County Museum and get a build card to know just what you have. Maybe John Schwebert will see it and comment. Do you have 6 forward speeds? Does shifting the lever give you slower speeds in all gears? Just trying to understand what you have there. As RR said, don't tear it up getting it out, it might be valuable to someone. There are several Oliver pages on Fakebook, maybe post there and see if someone know anything about it. Maybe it came from a canning company, I've seen Minnie Mo's set up with low speed trannys for vegetable work. Chris

If its a gas stick with the 13.6's. Most of the later diesels around here had 15.5x38's on them.

R Bruce local farmer has a 1600 with the creeper transmission. I posted about it a few years ago. The farmers brother did Ed with it and the dairy farm used it on a mixer wagon for a little while and is broke down again with a broken starter nose cone.

I'd take a nice picture of that part of the tractor and send it to Sherry Schaefer at PO Box 519 Greenville, I'll 62246.
Have to agree, 12.4x38 is most commonly used on a Farmall H, a Deere B, I ran an Oliver 770 diesel one summer, could have swore it had 15.5's, but 13.6's would be a good fit on a 13 inch? rim. I've bought a MILLION tractor rims & wheels and never heard of a 13 inch wide rear rim. Only ODD size used was 15 inch for 16.9x34 & '38 tires, and 21 for 24.5x32's and 27 for 30.5x32's, and 11 inch was common back in the '30's, '40's, and '50's. The Rim & Wheel companies are quickly going to all Even inch sizes, it's a L-O-T of work changing a rim rolling line over from 16 inch wide rims to 15 inch wide rims or 18 inch wide rims.

R Bruce creeper drive for sure as numbers are the same. Personally I would leave the creeper drive to keep it original.

Creeper drive was intended to be used only in low range of the main transmission. In fact, I believe the creeper drive was locked out in high range.

If you had a creeper drive, it could not have a hydra-power drive. It sat in the same space as the hydra-power.

Creeper drive would be used for certain operations that required slow ground speeds, a lot on vegetable farms.

The fact that the tires were narrow might indicate that the tractor was used in narrow rows.
