1850 tachometer

Hi Guys. My tachometer quit working when I was planting
corn. I Checked the cable and gauge and they seem to be
fine. It must be the angle gear in that housing the cable
threads into. The book calls it a key. Does that break and
cause it to fail. It's not spinning when I turn the motor over.
Do you know how I take it apart? Do I take the 4 bolts out
on the housing then it will be obvious? I dont want to
accidentally drop something down in the motor. Nothing
will fall off the back side will it? It's on an 1850 with a
Perkins. Are these available new if I cant find a used one?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Last I knew, AGCO had those pins yes. Just like you said, take the bolts out, pull that angle part off and I'd bet half of the pin is stuck in each part. Hopefully you'll be able to pull both pieces out OK. They're not likely to just fall out.

AGCO does have the pin and the part # is 158762A. They must be made of gold. I bought mine from Reliable Industries, part # 6478641 at a substantial cost savings. I did have to cut the new key off a little as it was a little long.

Ok thanks guys. Hopefully I can dig into it this weekend. Im fighting getting a new chain coupler on a different 1850. I got lucky and it only broke one line. I was all caught up fixing stuff until planting season started.
