1365 cockshutt transmission issue

Hello, after changing my transmission/rear end fluid, my transmission has started acting up, used shell tractor hydraulic fluid as i read on here is to be used. The tractor works fine when its cold, but after about 45/60 minutes of use the transmission starts to lock up, even stranger, once is begins to act up and the tractor is sitting idling in neutral, it was try to put itself into gear ( grinding noise for about 3 seconds and tires will jump ahead a couple of inches). No one around here will even look at it to work on it and Im at loss if it should just be parked in the hedge or if anyone knows what might be going on. Any info to get me on the right track would be appreciated. Its a 1974 4x4 model with the 8 speed tranny. Thank you

I wish Mitch Poindexter would check in. He's rebuilt one of those transmissions. I've never had to get in to mine. I have to assume
that there's a bearing inside of a gear on the input shaft that's binding up. Dang, I think you'd fall in love with that tractor if
not for this issue. I have the twin to it, except that mine's a 73.

I don't know what I did to the transmission on mine a few years ago. I'd never had a minute's trouble with it until I took the top
off of it while I had it split to put a clutch in it. I just wanted to take a look at the gears while it was easy to get to. After
I got it back together, it wants to jump out of 4th. All I did was lift the cover and the shifts out. Once in a great while it'll
go right in and stay, I can shift in and out alright, then it goes right back to jumping out.

My son was here one day and we took the top off again, checked the detent balls, looked around and didn't see a problem, but it
still does it. All I can figure is that the synchronizer slipped up somehow. I sure wish I had yours here in Michigan for a parts
tractor if you're going to give up on it.

I'm on the other computer where my pictures are now. Here's what mine looked like when I got it and after I repainted it as an
Oliver.

Rrlund is not exaggerating they are good tractors.the
transmission is not that complicated.correct me if Im
wrong Randy can he make sure its in neutral, take the
shift and cover off then start it and watch from the
seat to maybe see whats going on.then if it does
nothing he knows its the shifting forks causing the
problem or wear in the slots where the shift engages
the slots(shifting rail)

It would sling oil all over, that's for sure. I just can't figure why it takes that long for it to start doing it. You'd think it would happen from the start. I read the post a couple of times to be sure what was happening, hoping to it was doing it in gear with the clutch pedal down. Mine has a problem with that. The guys at Clutch Dynamics tell that the issue there is with the clutch being glazed. They have an odd clutch setup where the clutch is inside the pressure plate and doesn't run against the flywheel. Dan said there's not a lot of clearance to begin with and when it gets glazed, it tends to bounce off both surfaces then creeps and growls. I've put two new clutches in it and it was good for a year or so both times.

Maybe the answer to this one is just don't use it for more than half an hour at a time or shut it off often. LOL

Thanks everyone, Ill try and get a video of it tonight so you guys understand more what Im
Talking about, I find that interesting because I found that if I even giggle the clutch lever sometimes its goes away, Ill post a video of it acting up soon as I can

Now you've got me wondering. You said the clutch lever. Did you mean the clutch pedal or the PTO clutch lever? The PTO input shaft
runs inside the transmission shaft. The PTO pilot bearing would hold them apart so one doesn't turn the other. It's vital on those
that you run them with the PTO clutch lever down in the engaged position. If you don't want the PTO running all the time, shift the
gears out with the lever that turns from side to side just in front of the seat, then engage that PTO clutch lever.

No not the pto clutch, the main clutch. I ran the tractor for 45 minutes this evening with the 3 sod plow, never made a sounds, also hooked on the disks and tried that for another half hour, but the air temperature is much colder tonight then it has been, Im going to go disking again tomorrow and try and make her act up, unless a miracle happened itll act up once its warm

Maybe the PTO shaft is rubbing the drive shaft to make it jump some how.The next time it happens raise the PTO lever up in the disengage position.Don't see exactly how that could happen but something to try.

Hey everyone, we may have found the issue, seem to be
down in the 4x4 output case, both bearings are gone,
along with the seal, and the main gear is chewed very
bad in there, where would the best place to shop for the
parts be? I cant seem to find anything online
