Oliver 550 Flywheel Removal

Hi everyone. I have done a Z-split on my '58 550 to replace the rear main seal. I've removed the clutch and PTO drive hub from the flywheel. The flywheel slides on the pegs, but sticks and won't fully come off. When it sticks, it clunks, like it's hitting something (bell housing?) that's preventing it from sliding fully off. Am I missing something here? Is there another step? I don't want to pry on it and warp it. Thanks!

1st of all, you're not going to warp it. When I take them apart, I use a couple of splitting wedges & it works well pushing it off of the dowels. Just watch you feet when it falls. If somebody has a better way of doing this, please let me know. Thanks Kent

I have taken the blots that hold the top housing out 1 at a time and put in a longer bolt . Support with a cherrypicker attached to sterring wheel . that well let you move the top back so you can remove the flywheel.

I had 2 7/16 fine thread b0lts about 3 inches long where I cut the heads of and used a wrecking bar to slide the flywheel. Keeps it off your toes too.

@kysull: Thanks, this method worked great. I had to slide the top housing back about 3/4 to free the flywheel. Using some longer bolts was a great idea. The flywheel slid right off without any prying. I'm pretty surprised they designed the tractor to z-split so easily, but not allow enough clearance for the flywheel to be removed, but there you have it. Thanks again everyone!
