update on 2255 fuel solenoid and f/u question

The fuel solenoid worked fine after installing a ground wire. Did find that the system drained back after sitting for almost two years. Now for the next question. This particular 2255 is a 4-wd with the finger/ball units in the front for steering instead of the universal joint shafts that Maibach makes. Used these in another 4-wd drive and they worked great. However I purchased this unit used and without a manual. I see there are grease zerks to add grease in the wheel hubs where the finger/ball units are. How much grease should be added and how often? I suspect the lack of grease was the reason the other ones broke so I don't want to repeat that. Since it sat for two years, should I add a very good high grade grease and put in 1/2 a tube in each wheel? I don't have a clue on these.

From talking to my old mechanic friend, most of those CV joints broke because operators drove on harder ground with 4x4 engaged as the f/r ratios aren't precise enough for hard ground or to much full lock steering.

They also go bad because the axle seals fail and let the gear oil in from the axle into the joint washing out the grease.

I don't know about the amount, good and plenty is what I'd do.

That is an interesting comment and I would bet the older tractor was probably driven on the black topped road with the 4-wd engaged. I had some real cowboys running the farm before I fired all of them and
changed the cropping to something I can handle on my own. I suspect the extra grease in the units should not be an issue so I may hook up the electric grease gun and find me some good grease to use.
