I know some of you have a 1550, would someone take a picture of the throttle return spring under the fuel tank for me? My spring is broken and I cant see any place to hook the bottom of the spring. Previous owner stuck a wire through the spring and ran it down through the opening by the chain coupler and tied it around the brake rod. What throttle position is the spring relaxed at? Thanks, Chris

I'll look at mine tomorrow. That spring was loose or disconnected. I think the hook at the lower end was broken off. Seems I recall it was attached to a cotter pin through hole in the casting.

Can't really see down there but the attaching hole is back close to the vertical wall of the casting. I don't have all that pretty green paint. I remember a heavy cotter pin in it with the loop on top and flared from below. The spring hooked into the loop. You may be able to see better if from the back side if you take off the sheet metal cover between the platforms.

It will be relaxed in the wide open position. It will still have a decent amount of tension on it. It will not be loose. Mike's pics look about right for low idle. Their is a small hole in your picture by the steel lines I think that is where the cotter pin goes in to attach the spring in. I will look when I get home if it looks different I will let you know.

Thanks!!!! I found the hole that the cotter pin goes into. I took the old spring to Menards and found one pretty close to the length of the old one before it was stretched out. I'll try it tomorrow and see what happens. I have a parts manual for the tractor but I guess I didn't look at it close enough. Thanks again for the help
