Finally got all the oil leaks stopped and painted. I took it out for a Sunday drive.

Sharp. That must be a real early one with that seat spring. Looks like the cover over the radiator and gas caps opens from the left too.

Yes,I did a Z split, replaced every seal and Oring. Then replaced axle seals and one axle housing Oring plus brake seals.

A guy in our club just bought a gasser with the foot pedal start, but his has the newer seat and the cover opens from the right. His is a 1955 too, but must be just a little later than yours.

By 1955 diesel has the foot start and spring bar seat too. Someone did add a rod connected to the starter, but I removed it. It was a better set up, but Sort of like the foot pedal for nostalgic reasons.

Mine had a rod from the starter to the side of the tractor, worked good, but i took it off. Seat spring had been welded, I got used foot pedal and seat spring from Kent Gordon.

I don't what year that first diesel we had was, but that one had a rod up the left side of the hood and you pushed it with your hand. I know it wasn't stock because it had a Ford power brake pedal on it that you pushed.

The rod at the side of the tractor definitely was less complicated and worked great. Probably a popular owner installation. You would think Oliver would have thought of it. All the parts required to make the foot pedal starter doesn't really make sense. Mine was just a small pipe attached to the side of the dash with a steel rod through it which made a direct line to the starter.

I had to laugh, Fred bought that one a few weeks ago and took it to the tractor show just the way he bought it. He had to have Dick tow him to start it. He said his grand son loaded it and when he turned the key to unload it, nothing happened. It started right up when they towed it. After they got it running, Dick told him 'The pedal to start it is right there.'. Fred said he felt dumb as a post. He said he used it to start it when he brought it home, he just forgot about it.

I did something similar with my 1365. That one has to have the high/low shift in neutral to start. We'd been gone and my son was doing chores. I have a routine where I put it in neutral, pull the stop know and turn off the key when I shut it off. I got on to start it and it wouldn't even click. The key was on and I thought the battery was dead. I was about to jump it when I noticed that range shift wasn't in neutral. Boy did I feel stupid. Luckily I was all alone.
