Perkins oil pumps

I have read that there was a 4 lobe and 6 lobe oil pump available for the perkins 6.364 engine. I am wondering if there is a way to tell which pump is which, without disassembling the pump? I have my 354 apart for a rebuild, but have not taken the oil pump apart yet. I was Just reading some old posts and other things about the pump's, I assume the 6 lobe pump was in the later 1850's and then thru the white series. My tractor is a late production 1968 1850 with a 3speed. I was thinking about trying to find them better pump for my motor, if I have the 4 lobe pump.

I am curious to know what type of pump you have on your 1850. I just purchased a similar 1850 with a three speed but it was listed as a 1969.

I will try and take the pump's apart tonight or tomorrow and post some pictures. By my tractors serial number it was built in 68, I have not ordered the build cards for the tractor. I am not sure if the engine is original to the tractor or not either.

I took the oil pump apart, it is a six lobe pump so I guess I am all set. Thanks for the help.

To add to the discussion: Service Bulletin #430 125 dated 1-24-67 covers the oil pump change. 6 lobe pump was installed @ Engine S/N 354U-8546356. To convert you need the pump + inlet and outlines, relief spring, a gasket & O-ring.
