1655 clutch adjustment

Why would I need to adjust my pressure
plate fresh from the rebuilder?
If manual is correct, I would have to
lower fingers a 1/2 inch.
It doesn't make sense to me
The adjusting bolts have yellow thread
lock on them
Can't I adjust it with the pedal?

Did the rebuilder have your flywheel and clutch plate so they could set it up on the bench? If it was just an aftermarket rebuild, they'd just be guessing. They wouldn't know the true thickness of the clutch that you're putting in it.

You can get a reasonable amount of adjustment in the linkage, but only so much. I got a 1600 all back together one time and it was so far off I couldn't adjust it enough to even stop the tractor. Then a few years ago on the 1550, I had to use the clevis for the linkage off a parts tractor and weld a nut to it to get the linkage out far enough for it to work. The throw out bearing took a dump on that one this past summer so I had to tear it down again. I wised up and adjusted the PP this time. I don't know whether to tell you to risk it or not. I don't think those nuts would have to be turned very far to get a half inch in those fingers.

I had to put a clutch in that 1600 this past summer too, loader tractor. I took the flywheel and all to Clutch Dynamics and had Dan set everything up to his specs so I'd know for certain it was right this time.

Ok thanks Randy. By the way, I was looking for a socket to align the disk with and discovered I had a different size disk than before. I was advised to put in a 1750 clutch since I'm going with a 310 engine. Turns out the new disk has 27 splines and there's no clutch disk for 1750 with 19 splines.
I hope the parts dealer will exchange it.

Good thing you discovered that before you started trying to slide things together. You'd have been cursing me. "*(&^ IMPACT SOCKET MY ^$^! LOL

There is no drive disk with that spline. You will need to have one built rp. What kind of plate load do uou have on the pressure plate? Did you have the flywheel resurfaced?

Yes, i had the flywheel resurfaced.
The parts dealer is going to exchange my clutch kit.
I made sure it had 19 splines. I dont know what plate load i have.
