88 long shaft

I got the 88 to run today, starts good and runs better than I thought it would. I put the old long shaft back in, had to wiggle it a little, but it went in OK. It reached OK, I was told that it would be short, but the pto turns when you crank the motor over. Just for the heck of it, I measured the mounting pads on the 77 motor and on the 88 motor and they are both the same distance, so, I guess the long shaft should be the same. Now to pull that motor out, take the belt pulley off and get the hydraulic unit off to see why it's leaking oil into the transmission and decide whether to replace the top shaft in the transmission or leave the old one in. When it warms up, I'll clean up this motor and paint it and then it will be for sale.

I figured that shaft had to be long enough. Didn't make any sense to me they somebody could have used a shorter shaft with the 88 transmission being an inch longer and the 77 motor being shorter.
