354 perkins injection pump leaking ??

Hello I have another perkins ?? I bought a 850 massey combine last fall, used it on my corn
the previous owner told of a injection pump leak and it dose, I was looking on the net and
seen a post somewhere that had a break down of the pump, I should have book marked it , it
mentioned a fitting ,NO 11, I think, in the illustration was plugged, now I can't find it
is this familiar to anyone . Thanks Bryan

Is that the thing that looks like a door knob? If it is, I think Perkins was the only one that used it. There's a plug that everybody else uses in that hole. Al Baker(Pumpman) sent me one and I changed it myself.

No I replaced that , I believe it is called the atmosphere air pressure regulator,it also leaked, I will try to describe what is leaking , I will call it the can that fits in between the injection lines that comes out the top of the pump about 2" across and about 2" tall ,the fuel line goes in the top,I should be able to replace , the o rings or gaskets on the machine, but if the other thing is plugged some thing else will leak . also did you eliminate that diaphragm ? , they are not cheap and a plug would be a permanent fix , Thanks Bryan

I replaced that part that I described, yes. Al sent me one for $35 including postage. Just a simple unscrew and screw the plug in. Just have to be careful not to loose the little ball.

I had to pay $125 for that diaphragm at the local injection pump shop. $35 is a bargain. I was told that not all installations use the diaphragm. The $30 redress kit I bought had all of the seals and more but no diaphragm. I watched a guy named Bundi Bear on YouTube redress one and followed along. Not sure what part you are describing that is leaking. Can you post a picture? I have a 354 from a 510 MF combine sitting on my shop floor and there is a clump of dust surrounding the pump about 2 thick. I am guessing I will be resealing that one also.

That advance dampner is not needed, pump advance will work fine without it. Perkins and some Long tractors used it too, I remove all of them on pumps I get in for repair, one less place for leaks to show up..

This is the part that I'm talking about. The one that I replaced with the plug. It was spitting fuel right out of the little hole in the center of it.

Hello thanks for the input but we have gone off the topic I was asking about, I tried to describe it better in my reply , is there a check valve in the return line that can plug and cause problems, thanks again your help is very appreciated. Bryan

well looking at the videos on you tube I see the part that is leaking is the pump head, maybe more then I want to tackle it leaks at the base where the head meats the other housing as well as the top plate (that the fuel line comes in )Thanks Bryan

Simply put, time for pump to be torn down and all seals replaced. The O rings get hard and brittle over time, that's why the leaks start. I repair, test and return pumps each week for the same trouble.
