any one have, had or used a oliver corn picker?
in the neighboring county was a good sized oliver dealer,
and they were a lot of oliver equipment there,
my great uncle had a 74h mounted on a 1650 oliver tractor, that was quite the outfit new!

and several of his neighbors had oliver model 5 ,one row pull type pickers
the model 5 seemed very popular,
what was it like in your neighborhood?
thanks

I had two number 4 mounted pickers. Bought the first one on an 88 diesel. I've told the story a few times about one of my cousins and I getting that one home. A few years later, Dad and another cousin and I were at the sale in Archbold and there was an exceptionally nice number 4. Pete said I should be able to buy it for a song. I got it for $30. I used it mostly on the 77. I used to do a lot of custom with it, especially opening up fields for $1 a row.

There were a pretty fair number of number 5s around here. When I switched to narrow rows, I called on an ad for a 73 maybe? I don't remember off the top of my head. The guy said it was in good shape. I got there, it was a jockey and the picker was junk. The frame had been broken and welded, everything was crooked and the couplers in the shafts weren't even lining up right. I was pretty ticked off about the whole thing and went and bought a New Idea 325 from the Case dealer.

Had a couple of no 5s, then bought a two row number 83....when we switched to high moisture shelled corn we put a sheller on the 83, then when we went to narrow rows we went to a White 7300 combine

I would not mind collecting an 83 picker and 74H picker but I don't know if I will ever get there. About 15 years ago an area dealer had an inventory reduction auction and had the nicest 83 picker I ever saw in it. It looked like it was bought new, stuck in the shed, and forgotten about until the auction. 600 dollars. In general there were very few Oliver pickers around and virtually no mounted pickers. Mounted pickers were very uncommon in general and it still kills me that there was a JD 237 just down the road but long gone by the time I was old enough to do anything about it. Someday.

There is an Oliver #5 picker for sale in McConnellsburg Pa for $500, under roof and looks to be complete. It is advertised on FB
Marketplace. FYI it is not mine.

I have an 83H and have used it some. It works very well. I would like to find the sheller attachment for it.
