Oliver 1850

Has anyone Experienced any issues with the left brake locking up. I have cleaned and replaced the springs on the break itself the brake pad looks good is there any other things that could use cause this it’s happened a few times now once cutting hay in the other just driving up the hill

Did you take the actuators all the way apart and make sure the balls and ramps are clean and shiny?

I agree on cleaning the balls and the center that holds them, does not take much pitting on the balls to not release, new springs might help too. Had a 77 lock up unloading off a trailer that thru the tractor off the ramps and nearly rolled.

I had the same thing happen on my 1850 but the right side. I found that the one actuator plate had a crack in the braking surface. I tried to braze and grind it soomth but it still did they same thing. I believe that the plate was wrapped from heat. When I got the tractor The outside cover of the brake housing on that side was actually blue in color where the disc rides. I think someone ran it for a long time with the brake on or hung up. Anyway I ended up getting a good used assembly and replaced all moving parts including the pin in the clevises and the disc's. I also agree with someone else's comment of backing off the adjustment to have more free travel.

I am having trouble on mornings when the temperature is a few degrees below freezing. Warmer no trouble and colder is ok, just a narrow range where it sticks in the morning and I have to punch the right hand brake pedal and break it loose. I had taken the brake apart and cleaned it up in the summer and was ok until christmas. I think my springs are weak and maybe it needs a new disk even though there appears to be plenty of pad left? I don’t worry too much about brakes as tractor has a loader for slowing down, been hell on gates though. LOL
