Oliver oc-3 pto alternator

I put a 3 wire on the OC-3 I had but that was years ago and I have sold it since

The one- wire alternator has a "self-exciting regulator" so thus needs only one wire and looks cleaner and easier to install.
The draw back with this alternator is you need rpm to make it charge; if your going to idle around much and no rpms then the 3-
wire is the way to go. My opinion.

Thanks, anyone have any luck getting one? Been have some trouble getting one. The last one seems a little big.

I can buy a 3 wire alternator all day long from my local O'Reilly's for around $50 plus a $10 core

I converted my early OC46 (same engine as the OC3) using a small Denso alternator that is common on sub-compact diesel tractors such as JD. It is very small and fit in the OC46 engine bay unobtrusively. I followed instructions posted on this forum probably 10 years ago, he also posted them on the old Cletrac forum. My conversion has been working perfectly for around 8 years.

He has a YouTube video of the finished conversion. I found an old bookmark of what I think that I used, got it from Rareelectric.com.

Here is an earlier thread on the conversion.

I installed a Delco 10SI alternator in my OC-3 a while ago using the attached schematic. Low RPM's were never a problem. Also replaced the
magneto with a Farmall H distributor. Worked great, allows you options for a high output coil. Have since sold the machine.

Did you have to build brackets for the conversion? Trying to figure out how to mount one on my 1951 HG-68 Crawler

We ended up not getting it on, we could not find a way to put it on. The old generator ended up ceasing up. The person that owns the crawler ended up scrapping the old generator. We ended up just putting a belt on that fit between the fan and crank pulley. Maybe we'll do something down the road.

Thats my problem also. My 6V generator is fine. I am looking into converting it to 12v. It will give me all I need. I keep a trickle charge on it all the time anyway so I should be fine.

He'll probably do the same with the charger.
