Just picked up a decent backhoe. Was told it was a 1975 OliverSmith faded tags on loader have 2-44 with L below, was able to find a metal tag on it with 588 and below that 15505 stamped. Where to look for s/n on tractor and motor?
Feller said it has a Perkins 4 cyl diesel that seems to run good if the battery has good juice!
The backhoe he said was a mighty mite? Theres a tag with Wayne something from Mass.?
The brakes barely stop on level ground I assume when snow and weather breaks Ill be able to try an adjustment?
The clutch engages almost at the top adjustment?
Theres other odds and ends.
I would buy a manual but with it being a hybrid is the Oliver 550 close enough a match to help me?
Thanks in advance.

Unless somebody changed things, it's not a Perkins engine. It should be an Oliver Waukesha. A 550 manual should be the same. After
about 1968, technically they were all 2-44s. Oliver was selling the Fiat built utility tractors by that time in the ag line, so
they turned the 550/2-44 over to the industrial division. If an ag dealer wanted a 550, they had to order it through the industrial
division and had to pay an additional 30 some odd dollars to have it painted green. So says a recent article in Hart Parr Oliver
Collector anyway.

Where are the motor serial number located?

Yes looks like it.
Finally got to crawl around it. Looks like a tie rod or some steering arm broke? On right tire control arm!!

Engine serial number is located on the right side of the block either on the rear flange in front of the clutch bell housing, for early tractors. On the later tractors it was moved to the front below the generator, according to my 1963 owners manual. My 1959 550 has it on the right rear of engine down low partially covered by the frame.
Thanks

Thank you for the info.
Getting some decent weather to crawl around the ol gal.
Apparently in an earlier life she had power assist steering!
The pump is there, no belt on it. And a ball joint on the right control arm. No idea how a cylinder or bracket attaches?
But without assist its a bear to turn!
Some of the paint shows top coat light green, yellow, Oliver green under it all!
Found a broken adjuster bolt on the rear stirrup on the right brake actuator attached to the shaft. Found a small bolt temp fix.
Now to check brakes.
Thanks all

Update the logo on the backho is Mighty Hoe
I adjusted both brakes, left holds, right adjuster needs a new
bolt. Adjusted clutch lower works better.
Have milky hydraulic fluid! Best way to drain ??
Also doe the transmission also get the hydraulic fluid?

(quoted from post at 07:21:22 01/25/21) Transmission and hydraulic fluid are separate.

Ok what type transmission fluid is recommended?
Ive used TSC premium hydraulic fluid in the loader/backhoe.
Thanks

I need to drain and refill tranny fluid, it's getting getting moisture in it. I've read on here the Oliver 550 uses transmission fluid of 80w-90? is this correct?

Ive used Traveller Premium Universal Trans/Hydraulic fluid in the loader/backhoe system.
thanks for helping.

(quoted from post at 11:38:53 01/27/21)
You'll be fine with 80-90.
Do you know the location and what the over fill plug looks like?
Also the two 1/2 inch drive plugs are the drains and you open them both?

Sorry to ask the dumb questions. But i want to be right.
