Turned around 88

I have too much time on my hands!! I'm wondering about turning an 88 around and mounting a loader on the rear end. This was fairly popular yeas ago, puts the weight on the rear tires, steers better and increase visibility. I just use the loader mainly for picking stuff up and loading. I talked to a Safety Clean driver when I was working that farmed also, he said his dad did that with a 77 and it worked great except that he didn't turn the differential over so that it had 6 reverse and 2 forward speeds. How big of a job is it to turn the differential over? Do you have to empty the transmission in order to get the differential out and back in?? Might be a someday project.

I did the same thing years ago with a Cockshutt 30 with loader. Used a home made seven foot wide mower deck hooked into the cultivator brackets too.

yep, that's what I had in mind. Could you send me some close ups of how you mounted it on the tractor, please?

I'll try to get more pics of the loader sub frame soon. Actually, the loader sub frame is in the same location on tractor as before, just has two plates welded on each side on backside with holes drilled top and bottom for the boom arms and lift cylinders. Tractor has the creeper gearset, with eight forward and two reverse speeds. The diff has been flipped over too so direction is reversed. I chose the 30 for the large seven foot mower as I wanted the LPTO that most other tractors of that time did not have. Switched it to LP gas so NO stale gas/carb trouble when it sets awhile. just put a good battery in, hit the regulator primer button and it's up and running without fail. An MF mower deck gearbox is used for the 90 degree turn for the steering shaft, and clutch/brake pedals needed support brackets made to hook them up. The engine was completely rebuilt in 1986 and still runs fine. Doesn't get used as much now that I have a diesel skid loader now though.

There used to be a show on Sunday morning TV here in Western Canada that did stories on all kinds of farming innovations. My favourite was the stories of on farm inventions. Your tractor would have fit right into the weekly series. There needs to be a museum dedicated to equipment that has been retooled by an innovative and slightly crazy farmer.
