Oliver 1650 transmission leak

Just bought a gas 1650. Working on the Westendorf loader hydraulics all of a sudden a transmission leak started - appears to be coming from the chain coupler area. Trani fluid thrown around in that plane, then streams down from it when I shut her down. I assume it's a rear main seal. Waiting for a service manual, but can anyone give me a sense of what this repair involves?

Sounds like an over full tranny. Most likely caused by hydraulic fluid leaking into tranny. Have you had to add hydraulic fluid
often. Leaky pump seals. Get a few five gallon buckets, set them under tranny check plug, remove plug to see if tranny is over
full. If so the entire hydraulic system needs to be removed and pump replaced. If the tractor has a loader that makes it even less
fun.

After market oils can be hard to identify. Checking fluid levels might eliminate the most probable cause.

Thanks All. Decal says Hydra-Power Drive. Has a gear shift. Fluid is red and appears clean. Transmission fluid level is low- almost off the dipstick. Don't see a bare shaft forward of the chain coupler, so assume the
seal is inside a "tower" inside the coupler.

Red tells me it's ATF from the hydrapower. The chain coupler is right up close against the rear cover. May be able to slide the engine forward enough to get it out. John Schweibert can probably offer some insight.

Oh man :-( I'm hoping if you remove the chain, the shafts are separated enough that the coupler disks can be slid off and out, letting you replace seals to the transmission and rear gear box.

Tranny does not have a dipstick. It has a check plug on the side of the case. If you are talking about the dipstick just ahead of the seat it is for the hydraulics. If the oil level is almost off the dipstick the hydraulics are low on oil. Right back where we started. Get some buckets under the tranny check plug to see if it is over full.

I wish it was that simple, but as someone who just drained 9 gallons of red oil from his 1655 transmission, red means nothing.

Got a look at a manual. It's a slip vent cap dipstick on the left side of the tractor next to the foot plate. The manual says it's for the Reverse-O-Torc. Type A transmission fluid.
