1850 Input shaft

In the process of replacing the input shaft
for the transmission on my 1850. Due to bad
bearing and seal, also the splines for the
chain coupler are worn really bad. So I
removed the input shaft and found more
issues, the low range gear had started to
weld itself to the shaft. The tractor had
been run low on gear oil mixed with a lot
of water before I owned it. Anyway I found
a good used input shaft and low range gear,
my question is: the good shaft I bought
came with a plastic type sleeve that goes
between the gear and shaft. The one I
pulled apart did not have this it looked
like the shaft had grooves machined into
it. Is there and update for this with or
without the plastic sleeve?

I had the top off the gear shift plate on my 1850 last week. I did not notice anything that looked like plastic around the input shaft or anywhere else in the trans case.

I figured it out, the used shaft I bought is for a early 1800/1900 that did not have a pressure lube system. I have to order a new shaft.
