Oliver 550 PTO engaged

Finally found me the 550 I have been looking for these past few years. Got it yesterday and used the Oliver inspection you guys gave me a
while back. Waiting for the shop manual but in the meantime the PTO will not disengage. Previous owner said that it developed the constant
active position some time back and he had the PTO clutch plates cleaned and reinstalled. This worked for a short time but soon went back to
stuck in active position with no response from the selector. I remember reading once about a cam type adjustment on the selector position but
can't retrieve it. Appreciate any thoughts you all might have. I am going to need a fair amount of help on this fellow cause he needs lots of
work and I never fooled with a Oliver before. So beware!

The PTO is fully engaged and has full power per digging post holes. I have the big shop manual and parts manual on the way but was hoping someone would tell me you just need to adjust this thingee. I have done many models of Farmalls and Fords over the past twenty years and jumped at the chance to add this particular model of Oliver to my collection. Somewhere I read there was a way to adjust the linkage but maybe it wasn't even on an Oliver

There's a plate up underneath with 4 bolts holding it on. Take that off, then with the lever disengaged, roll the shaft around until you find the pin that you push in, and turn the collar. Sounds like it's either adjusted too tight or a pin has come out of the spider so it won't disengage. Best to have somebody else on hand to move the lever while you look up inside from underneath so you can see what's moving.

I had not thought about looking underneath and watching the action for possible adjustment, I was just about convinced I would have to go in from the top and replace the clutch discs. I'll look see underneath first, Thanks

Did you ever figure out the problem. I just got a 550 and I am unable to disengage the PTO as well. I have tried many times but it will not release. I plan to turn the nut in the PTO inspection area counterclockwise to loosen the pto clutch. If someone has a better idea let me know. I'd love to hear from someone who fixed this problem.
