Oliver 77 - Belt....

The 77 I had years ago had a pulley that 1/2 was movable to loosen/tighten the belt. Should be some hardware to loosen so the movable half can be spun on the slotted ramps for adjustment.

The lower pulley has three small bolts circumventing the pulley that can be loosened to allow the outer half of the pulley to rotate away from the other half. That allows the belt to be loose enough to be removed and a new belt installed. Then reverse the process to tighten the belt. It will need to be readjusted after it has been run awhile. You will see three small holes in the outer pulley you can use a long punch to tap the pulley in one direction or the other.

Loosen the three nuts on the crankshaft pulley, then take a punch and tap it. It should spread open. Then remove the bolts in the fan and set the fan on the shroud. The belt should come right off. Loosen your generator belt too. Makes it easier.

thank you as I do not have a book yet; my fan belt is good but my generator belt is no good...so I will get it changed !

Get yourself a 5/16 inch headless set screw or cut the head off of a bolt. Before you take all the bolts from the fan and pulley off screw that in one of the bolt holes. That way it will be easy to align the holes in both pulleys and the fan to help in assembly. Questions? J.

(quoted from post at 21:56:06 11/18/20) Any tips on how to remove the fan belt- I see no adjustment?

Having this forum is great. My 51 77 has that same setup and all the responses will be helpful come the time I get to working on that part.

Reminds me of when a teacher or someone doing a presentation telling the audience: If you have a question dont be afraid to ask it because a lot of other people may have the same question.
