550 Tachometer

I started the old 550 the other day to move it and the needle on the tach went crazy, jumping all around. When I shut it off, the needle stayed at 1000 rpm. Started it back up and it worked ok. Sounds like I'm about due for a new tach??

Try pulling the drive cable out first to lubricate it inside the casing, a sticking cable can make it jump too. Might still need a new tach, but worth a try..

what did your 550 bring at auction if i could ask if not thats fine just still looking for good unit prefer checkerboard grill style

It will sell on Friday. I'll try lubing the cable. I've had the tach drive strip the gears before and when that happens, they usually just stop working.
