Oliver 1550

Good morning! I found an Oliver 1550, I dont know much about them Its gas with a wide front end and a loader, any problems that I should look for? Thanks!

Let's see a picture. I got this one in '14. It needed a lot of little things fixed. Front axle, water pump, hydraulic, fluids and PTO clutch. All work good now.

Nice looking tractor! I tried posting pics but it will not let me, is there another way to show you the pics?

So I need some more posts to be able to post pics, but I spoke with the owner he says he installed new pto clutches, new engine oil and filter, hydra power fluid change and new filter, any way to test the hydra unit or what to look for on that?

Great tractor. I've had mine for 25 years or more. It's got over 9700 hours on it. Still reliable and trouble free.

Thats great to hear! From the pics I have of it I like it and hear good things about them.

That is not a 1550 rowcrop. It is a utility version. More rare. Likely to have a transmission code of -506 which is
high speed. If so it will really go down the road. I really like mine. A Nelson muffler will sure help the sound of
it.

Looks like a good one. Check the hydraulic and trans/diff fluid for water and contamination. Look what came out of mine. There was a service bulletin to raise the fluid level to ten gallons from
eight. A two inch nipple, elbow, one inch nipple and cap.

Hard to swing the battery door open with a loader so as usual someone removed the step/door. See if the owner still
has it.

thanks for the good info guys! Im going to look at it after work and will update.

Mike(NEOhio)-Would that service bulletin also have applied to the 1655 model? My 1655 had that nipple-elbow-cap arrangement when I got it used, I never thought much about it until I saw your post. Thanks.

Maybe so. The 1550 used the same main case as the 1650, just the internals were different. I don't know the reason for the change but my guess would be the axle shaft bearings. A higher oil level would get more lube out to the ends. Or mayb for better lube to the idler gear under the hydraulic pump. Mine was almost worn through at the snap ring and groove. Mine didn't have the elbow when I got it. I put it on per suggestion from John Schweibert.

My dad bought a new 1550 that only lasted a week. He had it parked on a slope grinding feed and it destroyed the rear end. Oliver gave him a whole new tractor. This one showed up with the elbow on it for more oil capacity.

Update, I went and looked at the tractor after work and boy o boy it was clapped out,it needed a full tune up,head cover gasket leaking oil, front seal leaking, pto guts blown, hydraulic pump was not working right, all hydraulic hoses needed replacing, needed brakes, bucket was in bad shape, transmission shifted rough, and a lot of other issues, I offered what I thought was a fair price in the condition and the guy said no I know what I got, Ill just let it sit in my barn, said ok have a great night. Oh and hes been trying for 3 months to sell it.

Good on you for being able to walk and not seeing green- like a lot of us on here... ha ha.
Thanks i just stood there and looked at it,in my head I saw a very nice tractor after all the repairs, then I snapped back to reality and offered him a fair deal and the guy said no which sucked but what he was asking was insane For the condition it was in, around my parts in pa people want top dollar for junk or they sell at soon as they are posted Ive been looking for a few months, patience my wife keeps telling, all good in due time I suppose.

(quoted from post at 12:32:44 08/07/20) I have a 1550 in Northwest Ohio that I would consider selling, if this is the model you have in mind.
