Hi guys I'm putting a new pump on my 105
found quite a few metal shavings in my
filter how would I go about flushing the
entire system before installing a new pump?
And any recommendations on what hyd oil to
use I always use the cheap Tractor Supply
hydraulic oil but wondering if that's why
this one failed it did not look that old

I noticed a lot of fine metal flake In my pan last time I changed an ‘50 series Pump. That’s about the only benefit I can think of relative to the location of the older tractor series system. At least you are forced to clean the Reservoir once in a while.

My point being that unless you can clean out the reservoir flushing only does part of the job. I try to get the hose shop to blow a wiper plug through any new hoses I get made or repaired. That’s seems to reduce the amount of metal fines greatly. Can you access the hydraulic reservoir on a 2-105? Or at least drain the tank. In terms of hydraulic oil quality I doubt that an older system can tell the difference between low priced hydraulic fluid and expensive name brands. Funny how once a machine is off warranty the brand of fluid used seems leas important.

That is a closed center piston pump in a 105. Use only a high Quality Hydraulic oil in it.You drain the system through the plug on the bottom of the filter canister. You cannot get a 100% of the oil out without pulling the hydraulic unit . It is not necessary to do that since the oil is filtered before it gets to the pump. But you do need to replace that filter when you change the pump. Then change it again after a few hours since there will be metal floating around in all the lines and steering cylinder. I always pull the control valve assembly off and completely disassemble it and thoroughly clean the metal out. Replace every o-ring in it. Then reinstall. Don't forget to open the bleed screw as you are refilling the reservoir. Then close it when oil starts coming out and leave it closed.Be sure to fill your replacement pump with hyd. oil before you install it.

Early in the production of the 55 series Oliver got a few bad pumps and one part would fail. Oliver sent out new parts and about a half dozen filters for each tractor. So as 2 stroke said you will need to change the filter several times.
