Removing 1650’s crankshaft pulley

Hi, first time poster long time reader here. I couldn’t find anything in past forums on this so if it’s somewhere already please let me know. I’m new to Oliver’s and I’m working on an Oliver 1650 (1964/gas) that I have to change the front crankshaft oil seal on. I do have the shape manual for this tractor. I am attempting the remove the crankshaft pulley, but it hits the power steering cylinder in front of it. In order to take off the pulley it looks like the power steering cylinder needs to be removed. For the power steering cylinder to come off I have to take off the 200+ pound grill. Seems like a lot to change a front crankshaft oil seal. I’m capable of doing this, I just want to make sure there’s not an easier method ie; loosening the engine mounting bolts and jacking up the front of the engine to get the extra 1/2” clearance I need. Any ideas or experience with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I can't think that the grill would have to come off. I've taken a lot of those cylinders out. Only problem I've had was with a 1550. I had to take the metal strip off the bottom that the screen slides down in to on that one. When I put it back together, I ground a little flat spot on the cap to make it slide back down past the bottom of the grill easier.

Got the same tractor in the shop now. Had to take off the front pulley to get the cam out. Remove grill, radiator, fan, Etc. loosen
all four engine mounting bolts. Didn't need to remove PTO shaft. I only needed to raise the front of the engine less than a 1/4
inch. Hope it works for you.

That’s the frustrating thing, it’s only about 1/4” of the cap that sits under the grill. No matter what way I turn or rotate the cap it hits the grill. I double checked and it’s definitely hitting the cast iron on the grill. I think I’m going to follow your lead and grind a flat spot so I can take it off next time. Thanks for the tip.

Success! That worked perfect, barley had to move the engine up and the pulley slid right past the cylinder. Thanks again!

I just got a bar under the mount and lifted it enough to put a screw driver between the engine and mount.
