I think the later 283/310 gas and diesel cams all started with a 2 for a casting number. So maybe a fleetline? 88? Just a guess at this point, and I'm probably wrong.
 
I think you are correct. We think it came from a 88/S88. Does it matter if it is gas or diesel? More importantly can it be used in
1655 gas? Thanks
 
Measure the lift on the lobes. the 7 main bearing engines have different valve arrangements while a 1650 gas and the 88 engines will be the same.
 
After some cleaning I found an upper case "D" stamped between the lobes that operate the valves for the # 4 cylinder.
