Posted this question on the crawler page, but someone referred me to the Oliver page. So here goes: Rebuilding a Herc IXB3 engine, bored out .040, new insert bearings, new 40 over aluminum pistons and new wrist pins. The rods are the type with the clamp bolt around the wrist pin. From anyone who is familiar with this engine--which way do the rods attach to the piston? My IXB manual says to place the slot in the piston away from camshaft side. OK. And then "install the rod with the clamp screw hole on the side where the piston is slotted". This puts the factory installed numbers on the rod and cap on the wrong side, AWAY from the camshaft. Manual also says the factory stamps on the rod and cap go on the camshaft side. So, which way is correct? I put up some pictures to help explain my question. Thanks, Ron
