Long story short, I adapted an Oliver 770 PTO to the front of a tractor to run a specialized mower for and orchard. Works just fine, but every once in a while it will smell like burning clutch when you shut her down. No smoke, no slipping, clutches are old, but have plenty of life left. Body of PTO housing gets hot. Not spit on it and it sizzles hot, but hot. Never had an Oliver 770, is this normal?

H0w much effort does it take to snap the clutch over-center to engage it?

You have a book? You need about 35 pounds of effort at the handle to have the right tension to snap the clutch over-center. Questions?
Tore into is today and this is what I found. First the grease that was packed into the brass throwout coupling was gone. Like GONE, not a trace, nothing. Burned up completely. That concerns me for a number of reasons but, secondly the clutch disc that is closest to the engine was stuck to the pressure plate. It was starting to delaminate and would not release from the plate. There is evidence that the inside of the clutches got HOT and the once zinc coated steel centers of the clutch discs have become brownish from heat. Is this all from them not being properly shimmed? I have new clutch discs to put in tomorrow, what are some recommendations for a proper install? How would one measure the effort needed to pull the handle? I have ideas, but what is recommended? If I wanted to share video with anyone on here, what is the best way to do that?
