oliver 88 ... 6 or 12 volts?

i am finding different findings on batterys. so was it 6 or 12 volts or both, depending on year? mine is 1950 and is 6 volt . even had the old 50 year old battery in it. want to keep it as it was.
 
Gas was 6v Positive ground. If you want to leave it that way, have new 2/0 gauge cables made and have the ground cable made long enough to ground to one of the starter bolts at the manifold. Three cables, battery to ground, battery to starter button, starter button to starter. They didn't go to 12v in the gassers until the 1957 Supers.
 
i just typed a story about this tractor and lost it. dam it i hate when that happens! so start again. thanks for the advise, yes i know all bout 6 volts and 2/0 cables and i make all my cables for my tractors. the 6 volt spin as good as 12 volts. but anyway i am doing an engine transplant on this 88. the nieghbours dad bought this tractor new. it seized up from water and he took it apart about 25 years ago. then he passed away and i bought it 20 years ago on his auction all in pieces. finally have time to get it mechanically restored . it is a very original tractor that has just sat around and got rusty. it took me 4 hrs to get the rear rim off due to being rotten and seized to the hub from calcium.used air chizel, sledge hammer and jackall and finally got it to move a bit. then finally got it off. the thing that surprised me was the gas tank is as clean as can be inside. the tin is very nice and has side curtains but rusty from sitting 70 years outside. but i will keep it that way.
 
Yep, I understand that. I wish I could have appreciated original tractors more when I got that 70 that I was messing with last week. It was rusted, but straight and complete. I started sanding and priming on the hood and what not, now I have a tri colored tractor that's 90% rust again because I lost interest in doing the body work after I got it mechanically finished. I've got an all original 66 that's a show piece when it comes to originals. I'd better not ever find out that anybody has put any new paint on that thing as long as I'm alive.
