I was thinking that several years ago we had a discussion on here about the 1939 70 steering wheels being open spoke instead of rubber coated with the metal cap in the center. Does anybody remember that? Seems like it was Blain or Mike French, or somebody else who should have known, that said they were. When I got mine, the original steering wheel was so bad that I couldn't even tell, but there's no hole drilled and tapped in the steering shaft for the center cap.
I found that article that I was looking for in the March/April 2010 HPOC that showed an original 70 that was all green, no red on it what so ever and no frame stripe. That one had the covered steering wheel, but it didn't say what year it was. There's a feature article on them in that issue. There's a cut away of one that appears to have an open spoke, but the next page shows a view of the operators platform with a description of all the features and that one has the covered wheel and the cap. The page after that shows a Cockshutt standard and an industrial 70 both with open spoke.
