What is the oil most of you use in the pto clutch.

   Which PTO unit does your tractor have, single speed or dual speed?  Single speed can be either 540 or 1000 RPM, this unit has a dry clutch. oil is only in the lower housing.   Dual speed unit is lubricated by oil from the transmission/final drive, does not need oil added to it if your trans/final oil is at the proper level.

Unit is a single 540. Tractor doesn't get many hours. Snowblowing tractor for winter mainly. Two young boys here want to do some bailing so had them do the oils etc. I was told it had a dry pto clutch previously and when they did some research for themselves they asked if they should also change the pto oil. They found fill and level check plugs online. There is oil in it although looks poor as I never got in there. Now I'm confused as been told both dry and online they found requires oil.

80W-90 in the bottom of the PTO housing. You found the fill and level plugs. Drop the cast bottom cover off to drain it. This is all below the clutch.
