So the 1600 came with the 265 engine,and that's a wet sleeve engine right? There was one sold yesterday, it looked like new, but had a little more white smoke on start up, than i thought it should have. It was a Estate sale and his brothers said he had it rebored, they had to bore the wet block to take 283 sleeves, so can they do that?
 
When I taught school if the kids disagreed with me they would say you need to change what you are smoking. M & W offered a set of 3-7/8 sleeves and pistons for those blocks for the gas engines. Since the blocks are the same no boring would have been necessary.
 
$4,000 on the money,he had about 4 brother's, one is a good painter, it looked really nice. But i suppose now M@W is not in the picture. But if he stayed with Oliver pistons and sleeves he would of had to bore it then ?
 
The 3-7/8 sleeve and piston set were for 1600 GAS tractors. In the 1950's M & W had some 3-7/8 sleeve and piston sets for 88 diesel tractors. I took more out than I put in when I worked for a dealer. No you didn't bore the block. My e-mail is open if you want to reply to me. Do you have any Oliver shop manuals? The sleeve and piston set for a 1600 diesel will cross over to a sleeve & piston set for a Super 88/880 diesel. I am probably older than you. I started worked for a dealer in 1960.
 
Hi, you are a little older,the other 3 brothers were standing there, and they said he bought that tractor it needed work when he bought it, they said yea he had to bore it out,to fix it, well the other brother that's a good mechanic and painter wasn't there or he could of clairified it for us, because i am sure he did the mechanic work also,i didn't think you bore the blocks now days just for giggles, Well thanks! I do have a 880 IT book !
