Ford 300 in Super 88

I have a wore out Super 88 with a bad engine. I would like to put a Ford 300 Inline 6 into the tractor and do some tractor pulling. Anyone have any insights on how to do this conversion? I assume custom engine mounts, Ford bell housing, Ford flywheel and pressure plate, Oliver clutch plate? I know nothing is as easy as it seems and there will be a lot of fabrication but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This should be a fun/not fun project but good luck. FYI, I have a friend building a Henry J drag car, using a 300 Ford, REALLY built! but planning bout 700 hp non-turbo! Enjoy

It's cost prohibitive to build the Super 88 as a performance engine. I want to be in the 150+ hp range when finished and that takes a lot of money and machine work on the Oliver engine. A Ford 300 inline 6 is
almost right there from the factory in some instances. I understand there are differences between automotive and agricultural applications but it still seems to be a less expensive platform to achieve the desired
result.

I’m not sure on what you would have to do, but it sounds interesting ! My brother and I have an 88 gas puller with a bunch of work done to it, and you are correct it does take a bundle of money. In our area ( ny) all of the pulls we have been to do not have a “hot rod” class, meaning the engines would have to been offered by the manufacturer in some tractor, or application of the tractor manufacturer. With this I mean you could use any Waukesha engine either from tractor or industrial application. Hercules would be another option, and Detroit. We also have a rules on cubic inches and rpm limits. Might be worth looking into before building something they won’t let you pull. Good luck ! Hope you can build and pull it !!

Plenty of Chevy motors and others have been done. Oliver already basically has an adapter plate on the bell housing and that is your rear mount. Front mount shouldn't be to hard. I'm sure its probably been done before.

I know I am getting obsolete, but where can I find a dictionary that will tell me what the heck these translate into in English?

Copy and paste didn't work well. This is one of them. Hope I didn't waste too much of your time.
