I have an Oliver 77 and Im not sure how the mechanical power lift works or if it does at all... hoping somebody could offer some advice or maybe a diagram of it... Ive had no luck anywhere else on the internet. Thanks much!

Mechanical lift as in for cultivator bars or the like in the middle of the tractor?
the arms right in front of the gear shifter... in the same place that hydraulics would be

yep... I was trying to upload some pictures too... But yeah its those little arms that are on either side just in front of the gear shifter... Im just curious as to how they operate and what drives them internally to know if mine are functional

my pedal is missing lol but I can get a pair of vice grips on it and when it turn that shaft nothing happens... does that mean there is a gear missing somewhere?

When the pedal is down with the engine is down, you can turn the shaft right around if memory serves me right. It might be that the spring inside is broken so the pedal shaft is in the wrong position. Pull up on the vise grips instead of down and see if it turns.

still nothing... I took the top cover off so I can see the lever inside along with the gear that is on the shaft connected to the arms... the entire assembly spins freely... it looks like it should be driven from underneath by a worm gear... is that correct?... if so then that is my problem because Im not seeing anything under it

so after seeing that diagram Im about 99% sure that my problem is a missing worm gear... not sure where it went lol... we have 2 77s so it pretty likely that parts got robbed between the two once in a while

UPDATE: I removed the entire lift assembly and found that the shaft with the worm gear is missing... I found a bolt laying in the transmission that seems to be one that supports the rear end of that shaft so Im going to get in there with a magnet in the morning and hopefully I will be able to fish out all the pieces for it and cross my fingers that most can be reused... my grandpa said he had used it to cultivate corn back in the 70s and he never took anything apart so everything should still be in there somewhere
